More About All the Light We CanNot See Season 1
The story follows a blind French girl, Marie-Laure, and a German boy, Werner, whose lives intersect in occupied France as they both attempt to survive the destruction caused by World War II. The story is told from multiple perspectives, but we mainly read it from Marie-Laure’s point of view.
She lives in Paris, close to the Museum of Natural History, which her father works at. When Marie-Laure is 12 years old, the Nazis take Paris and she and her father flee to Saint-Malo (a walled citadel) where her reclusive great uncle, who lives in a high house by the sea, lives. In their arms, they carry what could be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous item.
The real beauty of this book comes from the way Doerr writes, the way he describes things, his sense of originality and style, his absurd research/exploration of history, his keen insight into human life, but perhaps most of all, the physical world, and his play on magic realism: a bit of flirting. (He’s only playing with words, you know?) All the senses are affected by this book.
