More About BlackBerry:

In 1996, Mike Lazaridis, CEO of Research in Motion, and Douglas Fregin, co-founder of RIM, are in Waterloo, Ontario, United States, preparing to present their cellular device, “PocketLink”, to businessman Jim Balsaie. The buzzing of Balsaie’s China-made intercom disturbs Lazaridis, who fixes it before Balsaie arrives. The presentation to Balsaie is unsuccessful, however, following his dismissal from his position, Balsaie agrees to collaborate with the company if he is appointed CEO of RIM, and given a third of the company. Fregin and Lazaridis initially hesitate, but after learning that their arrangement with USRobotics had been a fraudulent attempt to bankrupt the company, they bring Balsaie on board as co-CEO.

In “BlackBerry,” there’s a lot of attention paid to details, and important moments are explained without being overly detailed. But at the same time, the characters and events are treated like elements in a piece of art, and it’s enjoyable to watch it again and again in the hope that you’ll pick up on little things that you didn’t notice the first time and connect the dots between the halves. For example, in one of the first personality-building scenes, Jim pushes him to build a prototype in a fraction of the time he thinks he needs, and Mike resists it.
