Wakaliwood is a village outside of the capital of Uganda, Wakaliga, and the birthplace of the over-the-top, no-budget action movies produced by the maverick Ugandan filmmaker, Isaac Nabwana. Known as Africa’s Tarantino, he has produced over 40+ films including Who killed Captain Alex and bad black.

His films are equal parts American action movies from the 80s and Shaw brothers martial arts films from the 90’s with a Ugandan twist. The budget of his films ranges from $200 to $500,000. His home studio employs his neighbors and friends to work on as many as 5 productions at a time.

But the story doesn’t end there… Fascinated by the movie trailers on youtube, film buff Alan Hofmanis leaves his life in NYC to work and live with him in Uganda.
