More About Unbelievable Season 1:

In August 2008, in the Lynnwood area of Washington, former foster child Marie Adler is sitting in her apartment in a state of trauma while her ex-foster mother Judith comforts her. Marie confides in a uniformed law enforcement officer that she had been sexually assaulted, and the officer asks her a series of questions while taking her report. Detective Parker and Constable Pruitt arrive to conduct a follow-up investigation and compel her to repeat her story.

She is subsequently transported to the hospital, where she undergoes a physical exam and evidence collection and is forced to repeat her story. The police confiscate evidence from Marie’s apartment, but they do not make much progress in recovering her belongings. Judith informs Parker that Marie had a history of seeking attention and that the rape allegation could be a continuation of that behavior. Parker and Constable Pruitt decide that the report is false and coerce Marie into retracting it, resulting in the loss of her trust in the program counselors and her friends.
